This should be billed the "no back-out" harness. I chose this design over the 3-strap models from the big-box stores because my stubborn husky/malamute would refuse to come home from our walks, and it was too easy for the cheap designs to slip over his head. After we adopted an Aussie mix who was a chewer I switched to an Atlas "Lifetime" harness for both of them, but this ended in tragedy as the lack of secure fit allowed our our Aussie to be hit by a car. I switched back to the Balance Harness for our husky and no longer have to worry about escapes. And now that there's a "damage insurance" option I don't have to choose between replacements and safety.

This is our 2nd harness purchase- because I liked the first one so much - pink harness for beach, green harness for everything else, my dog is 25lbs with long legs and lean body, she wears a size small, I did see that some people mentioned having a hard time adjusting it, and I agree - it takes a minute, but once it’s done it’s done, it’s comfortable and flexible - (at least my dog has not complained yet)

I love this harness for my Bernie who is a puller and gets easily chafed by harnesses that snug up under the front legs. It took a while to find a good one and this is it! We’ve had a black one for several years and it’s still in great condition but now I got a new orange one for better visibility in low light with my black dog :)

I really wanted to love this harness, but the quality of the clips is very disappointing!
My dog has been wearing is daily for just over 4 months now and I went to out it on her this afternoon and realized the back clip has broken, leaving the remaining part very sharp, which could dig into her back, not to mention it is way to big for her now.

Yes, I could have bought the warranty, but I didn’t think I would need it to cover the parts of the harness from breaking.

Our dog is tall with a long back and a broad chest. It can be hard fitting him with more structured harnesses since either the neck is too big and it slides back, interfering with his shoulders, or the girth band is pulled too forward and rubs under his armpits.

This harness is exactly what I was looking for. The many adjustable parts means you can get a great custom fit. It dries quickly and is easy to clean. The snaps are very strong and lay flush. I’m so happy to see they put a big D-ring on the back clip - so many harnesses have a tiny plastic ring to attach the leash which is a huge pain if you take your dog on and off leash a lot like I do, and it’s easy to snap if you’re wearing gloves.

The harness is minimal so it doesn’t have a fixed structure. A downside is that the harness will slide around. However I haven’t had any problems with it interfering with our dog’s movement even if it slides to one side. I actually preferred this to a more “fixed” or bulky harness because those have caused rubs and wore down his fur where the straps laid in the same spot all the time.

Also love that they have a high-vis orange which is really pretty and great for visibility in the woods.

Finally it’s awesome to have a harness you DON’T have to slide over the dog’s head! A lot of dogs really hate having the harness pushed over their head and even though our dog is comfortable with touch, I noticed he would avoid me when it was time to get his old harness on. For this one he just stands and waits. A great option if you have a fearful or body-sensitive pup.

Hazel is a Houdini like pot cake with a unique body type - love her harness. She can’t get out of it and can’t maneuver it towards her wicked teeth. Gives me a fighting chance to grab her if she is running off leash. She is a fast little red blur.

I’m a professional dog trainer, and once I discovered the Balance Harness I have never looked back!

I use this harness with the multifunction leash attached to the front and back on my own 120lb reactive Black Russian Terrier, and even as a not particularly large or strong person (for a visual, I’m only 5’6”, and my dog is 29” at the shoulder) I have enough control to stop my dog from dragging me toward a trigger. Now that’s saying something!

This harness is so adjustable I have yet to find a dog that I doesn’t fit well on. Plenty of room between the ribcage strap and the armpits, allowing for complete freedom of movement and comfort. The clip around the neck is also wonderful for dogs who dislike putting their head through a hole, or just easy removal. The adjustability also means it is secure for dogs who might try to slip their harness.

But the REAL seller on this harness, in case you still need convincing, is the high front attachment point. Most front clip harnesses sit lower on the dog’s chest, leading to the harness slopping off to the side and the leash interfering with the dog’s legs. Dogs walking at an angle like they’re in a fun house cannot possibly be good for their body, and it’s certainly not helpful for the handler trying to manage their dog!! With the hugger attachment point, particularly when used in combination with the back attachment, the harness stays where it’s supposed to be, and you can actually work with the gear to guide your dog in a different direction. No more dogs pulling away from you at a 45 degree slant with the harness halfway over their shoulder and tripping over their leash!

So take it from a dog pro - this is the harness you have been looking for.

While I haven't actually used this particular harness, I have used the identical harness (reflective) which I purchased several months ago. The new harness is simply a "spare" and one that I can adjust to fit my Australian Terrier (20lbs) when he's wearing his Carhartt work and rain jackets. After all we live in the pacific northwest and it rains. Overall the harness fits nicely without binding his neck, shoulders, "arm pits" or chest. Properly adjusted there doesn't seem to be much, if any rubbing and the dog is NOT always cooperative when he's in the presence of squirrels, rabbits, birds or really anything moving. Harness is well built and engineered and the reflective variety is nice to have at night and early morning in the dark.

This harness with coordinating leash (clasp on either end) and collar have made a huge difference! My dog walked 50% better right away. But the gear does not do everything - training is still required. I found that using the back and front hooks work the best using the front lead to make corrections as needed. Previously (with a leash on her collar), she had figured out that if she twisted her head and body in a certain way that she could undo the clasp and take off - it happened twice. She cannot get loose with this harness and even if she did with one clasp, then the other clasp is still attached. I have a GPS tracker with ID on her collar, and a metal ID tag on the harness to make me feel better in case she got away, but so far, I believe that this harness will keep her safely with me. And I love the purple color!

I adore these harnesses. They are the best fitting ones that I have bought for my dogs. There’s been a couple others that I’ve liked, but they’ve matted down my dogs coats too much. I have three mini poodles so these fit well are comfortable and do not Matt their coat.

You really can not beat the quality and style of the harnesses, collars and leashes. We’re confident with the fit and durability of each for our two large Labs.

The balance harness seems to be very versatile and comfortable for our dog in that she begs for walks!

This is a great light weight harness that is also very effective. My dog Remy is a rescue with reactive reactions to many things. We have worked thru most and I was looking for a harness that was light weight and easy to adjust. This one is perfect and also very sturdy. Thanks Judy

Have read rave reviews about Balance harness in Whole Dog Journal- I trust them and am happy that we bought them! Got the harnesses ( ordered 2) on Saturday and immediately put one on my Jack Russell terrier Willy! Adjusted the harness per instructions and took Willy for a long beach, walk and swim. The harnesses we’ve used previously clearly were uncomfortable for him, but he immediately moved naturally and without a problem with the balance harness. I could see that it didn’t impede any movement of his shoulders or rub under his armpit or, chafe any place. I will have to get used to how to put it on without pre-buckles – but that’s a me problem not a balance harness problem. One of the factors I was looking forward to was being able to buckle it around his neck rather than placing it over his head ,which my boy hates. Have been on several longs walks and frisbee play without any discomfort. Very happy that my boy has a harness that works for him! Love the 6 points of adjustment - and have been entertained by the chatty emails, invoice and delivery notification 🙂.
